                                                                            "HOT SHOCK"
Depicted on the left side of this photograph is a direction light bulb in pristine condition. On the right side is an identical direction light bulb showing a distorted filament that has cooled in a "hot shock" state. This condition is the result result of a severe impact when the direction light bulb was actually flashing [on] at the moment of impact. As the bulb filament is "hot" for only about 1/25000th of a second the filament in this instance stretched outward {toward the colliding vehicle) then, in the "off" cycle, it cooled in the distorted, extended configuration as shown.
Before the impact both bulbs were physically identical. In this case it was alleged that the driver "did not signal her intention to turn" (just before a police car crashed into her). This physical evidence -- the hot shock bulb -- contradicted that allegation as well as the "eye-witness" testimony of two officers who said her direction light was not on prior to the collision!"
