The defendant in this matter was a man in
jail awaiting trial who was accused of sending a note which,
if written by him could have been
construed as a threat which would have
been a violation an
outstanding Restraining Order
mandating that he not communicate with the "accuser/addressee". The note
was portrayed by the accuser as a threat of harm to
her child.
Comparison of this note with
known samples of the accuser's own
writing showed that she, not
the jailed defendant, was the author of the threat note. The charges against the defendant were dismissed.
In the
questioned document (above) the accuser made multiple use of the
highlighted symbol to represent the word "with" in the note. There were other individualized markings such as the "hook" at the right end of the bottom cross-stroke of the personal pronoun "I" as well as in the formation of letter
and letter combinations, e.g., the "y's",
the word "be", and much more in the
accuser's writing.
However, the "with" symbol was found in several
other known letters, notes, and writings,
of the accuser and was instrumental in
demonstrating that she, not the defendant, wrote the threat
note. |
